ELGO-DIMITRA is a public research organization supervised by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food. Its mission includes the promotion of innovation in agriculture, forestry, food safety, and sustainable land management. Through its research institutes and experimental stations across the country, it supports scientific excellence and evidence-based policy-making in rural development. The Forest Research Institute of Thessaloniki (FRI) is a specialized research unit focusing on forestry, ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, and forest ecosystem services. It operates under the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DEMETER (ELGO-DIMITRA), which is the national body for agricultural and environmental research in Greece.

Internship description (the tasks, responsibilities, benefits) :
We are offering a 2-6 month internship opportunity within the Forest Research Institute of Thessaloniki (FRI), part of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – ELGO-DIMITRA. The intern will participate in a research project investigating the role of biofertilizers in enhancing soil fertility and supporting plant growth in agroforestry systems.
The internship is ideal for students or recent graduates in agronomy, environmental science, soil science, microbiology, or related fields who are interested in sustainable farming techniques and soil–plant–microbe interactions.
Responsibilities include:
- Collecting and processing secondary data on biofertilizer use
- Conducting literature reviews on international practices and scientific findings
- Documenting best practices in applying biofertilizers in mixed farming–forestry systems
- Assessing interactions between biofertilizer microorganisms, plant species, and soil properties
- Contributing to the evaluation of system sustainability and resilience
The intern will work in a collaborative research environment, contributing to applied research with real-world impact on sustainable land use.
