Biocircularity for Sustainable Food Production
Can we maximize resource efficiency while ensuring sustainability in food production? What role does biocircularity play in transforming the agrifood sector?
The Webinar: Biocircularity for Sustainable Food Production (October 1, 2024), organized by CoVE Portugal (Food4Sustainability, ISQ, BGI, and GreenUPorto) under the Erasmus+ AgriFood4Future project, explored these pressing questions.
This event focused on innovative strategies to enhance sustainability across the food chain, with particular emphasis on maximizing the efficiency of land and marine resources.
Highlights from the Webinar:
Cláudia Costa, from Food4Sustainability, explained the AgriFood4Future project aims and the importance of agrifood stakeholders joining the CoVEs.
Additionally, three cutting-edge projects were showcased, demonstrating how innovation is driving sustainable practices:
- Bruna Moura, from ISQ, introduced the Sea2Land project, illustrating how fishery byproducts can be repurposed as biofertilizers, bridging marine and agricultural sustainability.
- Cláudia Godinho, from BGI, presented the Tech4RegenAg project, a transformative initiative providing tools and knowledge to support the implementation of regenerative agricultural practices.
- Tomaz Stillwell, from Food4Sustainability, shared insights into the AmpliAqua commercial unit, highlighting the innovative and sustainable potential of aquaponics.
This engaging session offered participants a glimpse into the future of sustainable food production, emphasizing the importance of biocircularity and the transformative power of innovation.
The AgriFood4Future project continues to pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient agrifood sector through digitization, environmental stewardship, and capacity building.
