Position summary :

Short Description of the company

Founded in 2018, Lisaqua is an impact start-up that raises shrimp in land-based farms, with no impact on the environment. Its mission: to produce better, with fewer resources.

Thanks to its patented technology, Lisaqua offers the first fresh shrimp, guaranteed without antibiotics or preservatives, raised in France.

After 5 years of R&D, Lisaqua launched the first shrimp farm in France, in Saint-Herblain (Nantes) and produces 10 tons of shrimp a year. The company is preparing to scale up with Europe’s largest shrimp farm, in Seine-et-Marne in 2025 (500t/year).

Lisaqua’s ambition is to become the leader in healthy, sustainable aquaculture. A network of farms in France and Europe will enable us to produce several tens of thousands of tonnes per year. Lisaqua’s shrimps, which are local and environmentally friendly, will thus be accessible to as many people as possible.

Lisaqua is a winner of the FrenchTech AGRI20 scheme, the European gas pedal EIT Food and a member of La Ferme Digitale.

Internship description (the tasks, responsibilities, benefits) :

In this context, and with the aim of reducing the consumption and quantities of residual waste from future farms, you will be taking part in technical studies on processes for preparing new water used in breeding, as well as on unit operations for treating residual breeding water with a view to its 100% reuse.

In support of the water treatment process engineer within the engineering team, you will be working mainly on the following assignments:

Monitoring biological treatment unit operations

– Manage an experimental denitrification unit, on-line on the farm (pilot scale).

– Participate in the integration of dephosphatation into the denitrification process, by biological or chemical co-treatment.

– Ensure analytical and operational monitoring of performance (N, P abatement), in conjunction with control parameters.

– Contribute to results analysis and communication in the form of dashboards, summary notes or internal presentations.

– Participate in optimizing pilot unit operating sequences (cycles, reaction times, feed, etc.).

Waste treatment :

– Analyze the physico-chemical composition of wastewater (nitrogen, phosphorus, COD, SS, conductivity, etc.).

– Define the treatment strategy needed to comply with discharge standards, particularly in terms of effluent biodegradability.

– Define quality objectives according to the intended use (technical reuse, partial recirculation, etc.).

– Study and design suitable processes for eliminating remaining pollutants (biofiltration, coagulation/flocculation, disinfection, etc.).

– Carry out laboratory or pilot tests, in-house or in conjunction with technical partners.

Desired Profile:

  • Education: Student in an engineering program or studying a Master’s in Process Engineering, Chemistry, Environment, Bioprocessing or other related fields.
  • Skills: knowledge in solution chemistry and analytical laboratory methods, water treatment, bioprocessing and aquaculture processes.
  •  Autonomy and rigor: ability to work independently with attention to detail and precision in conducting tests.
  • Scientific curiosity: interest for applied research and industrial processes in aquaculture, curious about innovation.
  • Analytical and synthesizing skills: ability to evaluate technical and economic solutions in line with company objectives.
  • A plus: previous experience or interest in sustainable aquaculture, biological processes, or the technologies for water management
  • Languages: Fluent in both French and English for communication with our European partners
