Free online training for agricultural advisors shaping tomorrow’s agriculture

The agriculture of tomorrow is being built today

Climate change, resource scarcity and new technologies are transforming farming, and farmers need trusted guidance to keep pace. Agricultural advisors are at the heart of this transition. They turn innovation into practice, one farm at a time.

To help them stay ahead, the Erasmus+ AgriFood4Future (AF4F) project has developed a free online training course designed for agricultural advisors, and open to students, educators and all agri-food professionals.

Six modules, covering six key areas of expertise

The AF4F course is 18 hours of self-paced online learning, free of charge, on the AgriFood4Future eLearning platform. Advisors can follow it anytime, anywhere, at their own pace.

Each module was designed by a partner organisation in its own field of expertise:

  1. Introduction to Smart Agriculture (ELGO): digital and IoT tools, data-driven management and agroforestry as a nature-based solution.
  2. Precision Agriculture (ARVALIS): GPS, RTK correction methods and sensor-based solutions for crop management.
  3. Climate-Smart Farming (INAGRO): how farms can adapt to drought, soil erosion and water scarcity, and help mitigate climate change.
  4. Regenerative Agriculture (INAGRO): practices that restore soil health, boost biodiversity and store carbon, with a focus on vegetable systems.
  5. Energy Cover Crops for Biogas Production (ARVALIS): species selection, nitrogen calculation and best practices for renewable energy.
  6. Food Footprint (UCSC): the environmental impact of the agri-food chain and methods for assessing sustainability.

The course is primarily intended for advisors, but it will be just as useful for students, teachers, and other professionals in the agri-food sector.

Learning across languages: making knowledge accessible

Language is one of the biggest challenges for any European training programme. A shared language makes it possible for partners from different countries to pool their expertise and build one common course. Yet agricultural advisors work in their native language, alongside farmers who do the same, and technical subjects are always easier to grasp in one’s mother tongue.

For professionals with busy schedules, a foreign language can turn a useful course into an extra effort, and sometimes into a reason not to start at all. Making training accessible therefore means not limiting ourselves to the content: the way is just as important as what it conveys.

AF4F has taken this challenge step by step. The first edition of the course was offered in English only. Building on participants’ feedback, the second edition now provides subtitles and voice-overs in six languages: French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese and Greek.

This multilingual approach opens the course to a much wider community of advisors across Europe. It reflects a simple conviction: knowledge only drives change when everyone can access it.

Get certified with a micro-credential

At the end of the course, participants take an assessment to evaluate what they have learned. Successful participants receive a micro-credential aligned with European standards for skills development in agriculture, providing recognised evidence of newly acquired skills that can be shared with employers and farmers.
